Are You The Fat Guy On The Bench Press?

April 5, 2016 By: Ken (Support)

Half of the reason I head to the gym each afternoon is for the comic relief from watching the guys who don’t know what they’re doing.

Exhibit B here has a special place in my heart…

fatguy

See… I’m not in the business of making fun of people for things they can’t control – that’s not really the point here. Of course this poor guy is grossly unhealthy and I’m sure there’s nothing in the world he desires to have more than a chiseled jawline and shredded abs.

The main takeaway is being able to recognize the strategic flaw in how he approaches getting healthy – and it’s the same mistake I see poker players make over and over again when they devise a plan to improve their poker games…

Instead of attacking his clear health “leak” of having too much body fat by doing exercises like interval training, cardio, or other proven fat burning activities, he chooses to hop on the bench press because for him, it’s likely the only familiar contraption he sees in the gym. And hey! Buff guys do bench, so I should too, right?

Over the years, I’ve noticed that poker players are guilty of similar behavior. They focus on bright shiny “tactical” ways to improve their game without being strategic. This type of approach makes you feel overwhelmed with information, and feeling anxious because you never feel like there’s enough time to view everything that’s out there, and implement it into your game.

In other words, poker players know they should do something to improve their games, so they try to do everything. But they focus far too much on tactics, rather than being strategic about how to increase their winrate, move-up in stakes, and make more money.

In this week’s video, I’m going to teach you:

  • How to optimize the areas of your game to focus on – so you can waste less of your precious time
  • How to identify your biggest weakness and turn it into a strength – so you can build your game gradually and be less susceptible to tilt and variance
  • How to know when you’re ready to get a poker coach – and the one question you should ask yourself when it’s time to go shopping for a new poker book, video, or coach (even mine!)

I love creating these short videos for you – but I want to hammer on the topics you want to hear about. So reply back to me with any requests you have (consider me your PLO DJ!).

I read and respond to every comment – and my goal this year is to connect with as many players who are as passionate about PLO as I am – is that you?

I look forward to helping you achieve your goals in PLO.
